Shoutout to that old salvage diver in Galveston

He told me last month that the best tool for finding lost anchors on murky bottoms is just a long steel rod you drag by hand, and after fighting with a $2,000 sonar for three seasons I finally tried his way and found three anchors in one afternoon, has anyone else had an old-timer make them feel like they overthink everything?

Hang on I gotta push back a little on this one. Ive used both methods for years and that steel rod trick works great for finding big heavy stuff like anchors but its useless for anything smaller or deeper. Sonar takes time to learn but once you dial it in you can cover way more ground and find things that rod would never catch like chains, traps, or small wreckage. Ive watched guys spend all day dragging a rod and come up empty while my sonar showed them exactly where to look. Not saying old timers dont know stuff but sometimes their way is just what worked for them not necessarily better for everyone.

New tech just lets us double down on wrong instead of adapting.
