Serious question, why do new tenders keep yanking the hose when I'm in the bell?
Had a job last Tuesday in the Ohio River and my tender, first month on the crew, kept pulling my umbilical tight every time I moved off the ladder. I finally came up and asked him why, and he said he thought it was his job to keep the line 'snug' so it wouldn't snag. That is backwards. The hose needs slack so you can move, and the tender's real job is watching your bubbles and staying ahead of you, not keeping tension on the line. He was treating it like walking a dog. It caused a kink near my manifold and I had to surface early, cost us about an hour and a half of dive time on a 4 hour window. Has anyone else had to explain this to a green tender, or do you just let them figure it out on their own?
