Pro tip: Use a backup air supply checklist after a near miss in the Gulf

I was on a job off the coast of Louisiana last spring and my primary air line got snagged on a wreck. If I hadn't double-checked my bailout bottle before the dive, I'd have been in real trouble. Now I always run a quick gear check with my tender before any deep water entry.

Man, that's a close call. Glad you had that backup lined up, that kind of scare sticks with you for a long time.

Did your tender ever give you crap about being too careful? I had a guy once tell me I was wasting time checking connections twice, then his own hose popped off right before a descent and he never said another word about it.
