Lost my umbilical at 80 feet in the Mississippi and had to find it by feel
Working a pipeline inspection near Baton Rouge last Tuesday, my tender bumped the cage and my air line snagged on a rebar stub down at the 80 foot mark. I could not see more than two feet in that current, so I killed the light, held my reg, and traced the hose hand over hand until I got it free. Took about 4 minutes but it felt like 20, and my surface guy was already prepping the standby diver when I came back on comms. Anyone else running in near zero viz, do you trust the feel method or do you stop and wait for a buddy?
