I finally learned to stop trusting my gut on tank pressure checks

For like 4 years I would just glance at my SPG and think 'yeah that looks fine' before a dive. Last month I was doing a simple hull scrub in Port Angeles and my air felt off at 40 feet, turned out my gauge was reading 700 psi high. The shop owner caught it when I mentioned it, told me to always do a buddy cross-check with a second gauge, and honestly I felt like an idiot for never doing that. Has anyone else had a gauge go bad on them and only notice because something felt weird mid-dive?
