Had to pick between a new helmet light or fixing my drysuit leak before a job in Seattle

Last week I had a job inspecting a pier up in Seattle and my gear was giving me grief. My main helmet light was flickering, and my drysuit had a slow leak at the wrist seal. I could only afford to fix one before the dive. I went with the new light, figuring I could just tape the seal. Big mistake. The water was so murky the light didn't help much, and my arm got soaked and freezing after about 20 minutes. Anyone else ever make a bad gear choice that seemed right at the time?

My old dive buddy always said a dry diver is a happy diver. That wrist leak in cold water is no joke, it just sucks the heat right out of you. I probably would have gone with the light too, though, which is why I'm not a smart man. Seattle water is basically coffee with cream, so a new light was kind of a waste anyway.

Honestly, that's a brutal call to have to make. Tbh I would have picked the light too, but you're making me rethink it. Ngl, sometimes you just have to accept the visibility is garbage and focus on staying warm and dry to get the job done. Bet you won't make that choice again.
