Got a fresh water hose blown off my mask at 90 feet off the coast of Port Fourchon last month
Was doing a routine inspection on a platform riser when a buddy's hose coupling let go. Mask filled instantly with 50 degree water. Had to do an emergency ascent because I couldn't clear it fast enough. Now I check every o-ring and hose fitting twice before jumping in. Has anyone else had a fitting fail on them like that?

Man that's basically the diving equivalent of getting slapped awake by the ocean. Nothing like a face full of freezing gulf water at 90 feet to make you question every life choice that led you there. I bet you checked that hose so hard after that it probably flinched. At least you got a solid story out of it and didn't end up as crab bait.

Idk man, people act like a little water in the face is some kind of near death experience. I mean, yeah it's startling and probably cold but it's just water. If your gear is actually working right a splash is just a splash. Half the time my mask floods a bit on descent and I just clear it without thinking. Maybe it's just me but I feel like there's a difference between "got some water in my eyes" and "my hose blew off." A wake up call? Sure. Something that makes you rethink your life? Eh, feels a bit dramatic.

Face full of freezing gulf water" - did that wake you up enough to change how you check your gear now?
