Fancy titanium knife set cost me $480 and the rust came back anyway

Honestly, I bought that overpriced titanium knife set in 2021 for a salvage job off Galveston, and after 14 months of real saltwater work, the blades pitted worse than my old $60 carbon steel ones, so does anyone else just stick with the cheap stuff and accept the rust?

Did you ever try a drying rack, or just blame the blade?

Three years ago I would've told you that you were crazy for not dropping the money on fancy blades, especially after watching my buddy's cheap set fall apart on a Key West job. But after that same titanium set you're talking about betrayed me during a week of dredging work near Corpus, I switched back to a 40 dollar stainless set from the hardware store and just accepted the rust as part of the deal. Now I keep a rag with some mineral oil in my truck and wipe them down every night, takes five minutes. The expensive ones made me feel smart until they didn't, and honestly the rust on the cheap ones feels more honest, like it's earning its wear. I still dry them off better than I used to though, so maybe the fancy knife taught me that much at least.
