Bought a $3000 heated vest for winter diving and it was a total waste

Everyone on my crew swore by them, but mine failed after two dives in Lake Michigan. The battery pack flooded and the whole thing just became dead weight. What's a better way to stay warm on long cold water jobs?

Three grand for a vest that floods on dive two? My old truck heater core went out last winter and that felt like a better investment. Honestly, for cold water, I've heard good things about those thick fleece undersuits, the kind you layer.

My uncle used to dive for salvage and swore by wool long johns under his drysuit, said they kept him warm even when damp. He called fancy gear a "failure point waiting to happen" after his own heated glove system shorted out. What did your crew use before these vests got popular?

Funny how the old school stuff just works sometimes. Ever notice the guys who did the real dirty work, like your uncle, never trusted anything with a battery? They'd layer up with wool or thick fleece and just deal with it. Makes you wonder if all this tech is solving a problem we already had figured out, but just making it more expensive to fail.
