The YouTube comment that made me ditch my whole editing workflow
Last week I saw a comment under a wedding video that said 'your cuts are giving me motion sickness.' At first I was mad, but then I rewatched my last 3 projects and yeah, they were right. I had been using too many quick jump cuts because I was following some trendy editing tutorial from 2023. Has anyone else had a random stranger's comment completely change how you work?

Oh man, that comment about motion sickness hits hard. I actually read something recently where a wedding filmmaker said they switched to way longer takes after some guest told them the same thing. And you know what? They said their bookings went up because couples wanted that "real feeling" instead of the hyper-edited TikTok style. I totally get what you mean about trendy tutorials being a trap though. I followed one of those fast-paced editing templates last year and my own mom asked if I was okay because she felt dizzy watching my travel video. Its wild how one random person can point out something that was right there in front of you the whole time.

Wait, do people actually enjoy getting dizzy from watching videos? I don't get why so many creators copy that fast cut style without thinking about how it feels to watch. @chen.casey your mom calling you out is honestly the best feedback anyone could get. It's so easy to get stuck in what's trendy online and forget that real people have to watch the final product. Longer takes force you to make every second count too, which usually makes the story stronger. I'd rather watch something that feels calm and intentional than something that makes me reach for motion sickness meds.
