The recipe comment that taught me to ignore the reviews

Last month I tried a viral pasta recipe with 4.8 stars and hundreds of comments. Half the top comments said the sauce split and tasted like paste. I figured they were doing it wrong, so I followed it exactly anyway. It split. So I scrolled back and someone had posted a fix using a splash of pasta water and an extra pat of butter. Now I read the bad comments before the good ones, has anyone else found the real tips hiding in the 1 star reviews?

321 people gave that recipe 5 stars and called it "restaurant quality" but I counted 17 separate complaints about the sauce breaking before I found the pasta water trick buried in comment #184. It's like the rating system rewards the first impression and punishes the follow up. Honestly the real gold is sorting by "newest" too, because that pasta water fix only showed up after people had time to experiment, the initial wave of reviews is just hype.
