Last month my kitchen sink backed up and I was about to call a pro. Then I saw a comment on a plumbing video where a guy said rent a 25 foot drain snake from Home Depot for $40 and do it yourself. I thought he was nuts because I'm not handy at all. But I rented one, watched a 5 minute tutorial, and cleared the clog in 20 minutes. A plumber quoted me $250 for the same job. Now I'm wondering how many other common repairs people overpay for because they're scared to try. Anyone else found a random comment that actually saved you real money?

Sink clogs are basically a rite of passage for anyone who rents a snake instead of calling a plumber. I did the same thing with my toilet flange last year, saved a solid $150 and felt like a hero for a week. There's so much stuff you can do yourself with a quick YouTube search and a little bit of confidence.
