Stumbled on a stat about how many Instagram comments are just emojis, and it blew my mind

I was scrolling through some random post about social media engagement, and it said like 53% of comments on Instagram are just emoji strings. No words, just little faces and hands. That feels wild to me because half the time I see a comment with just a fire emoji on a serious post, I wonder if they even read it. But then again, I've done it myself when I'm lazy. So what do you all think, are emoji-only comments lazy or just efficient?

Does anyone else find themselves doing the emoji-only thing without even thinking about it first? I've totally been guilty of dropping a heart or a crying-laughing face just because I was scrolling too fast to type out actual words. It feels lazy for sure, but in my experience it's more about not wanting to take the extra two seconds to say something meaningful. Your mileage may vary, but I think the data is pretty interesting even if the habit is kind of shallow.

Actually, I've seen numbers closer to 70% for Instagram emoji-only comments in some smaller studies on engagement. My experience is that they're often a lazy way to rack up quick interaction without adding anything to the conversation. A single fire emoji isn't really communicating much, so I'd call it more lazy than efficient.

Is it really that big of a deal though?
