Serious question, why did nobody tell me I was seasoning my cast iron wrong for 8 years?

Saw a comment from a guy who said he just cooks bacon in his pan and never oils it, and I realized I'd been spending way too much time with flaxseed oil and oven cycles for nothing.

Eight years? Man, that hurts. I went three years with the flaxseed method myself, oven on for hours, kitchen smelling like a weird science project, and the seasoning still flaked off after a month. Finally just started cooking burgers and cornbread in mine and it fixed everything. Feel your pain though, all that wasted effort when the answer was just cooking normal food.

That flaxseed kitchen smell reminds me of the time I tried seasoning a pan with bacon grease and set off every smoke alarm in the house.
