Saw a post about a missing cat go from 0 to 10k comments in a day
Honestly, it was a local Facebook group post from someone in Austin. The first comment was just 'hope you find him'. But after about 12 hours, a huge fight started because someone said they saw the cat but it was actually a raccoon. Ngl, it turned into people arguing about raccoon tails vs cat tails, then someone posted a link to a video of a possum, and it all went off the rails. Has anyone else seen a normal post get totally hijacked by something this random?

That Austin story is a perfect example of how these things spiral. My local group had a lost dog post turn into a two hundred comment fight about leash laws. It's like people just wait for a chance to argue.
