I was reading comments on a news article about the new park downtown, and everyone is raving about the modern design. I think it's a total miss.

Ugh, totally! It's all sharp edges and weird metal benches that are impossible to sit on. I walked through last week and it just felt cold, like a plaza not a park. Where are all the shady trees?

Yeah, read they wanted it to look "modern" or something.

Right, the "modern" look. I heard the city went with that design because it's cheaper to maintain long term. Less grass to mow, no leaves to clean up, benches that won't rot. They traded comfort for a lower maintenance budget.
