Guy in a Facebook woodworking group told me my oak table was 'firewood with extra steps,' and 400 people liked it
I posted a pic of the first dining table I ever built, a solid oak thing that took me 3 weekends in my garage last month, and this one guy Rick commented 'firewood with extra steps' while everyone else was being nice. He then wrote a 200 word follow up about how my breadboard ends would split by winter and honestly some of it made sense, which made it worse. Do you reply to comments like that or just let them sit there?
Why do people always gotta tear down the beginner? I see this everywhere, not just woodworking. Somebody learns to play guitar and posts a song, and there's always a guy in the comments talking about how their chord changes are sloppy. The person cooking a new recipe, the person running their first 5k, same thing. It's like everyone forgets they were bad at stuff once too. Here's the thing though, Rick's comment only stung because some of it was true, and that is the worst kind of mean comment because you can't just write it off. I'd leave it up and not reply, because answering just feeds the guy, and in a year your table will still be standing and his comment will be buried.
