Can we talk about that guy who got roasted in the comments of a restaurant review for calling a $12 burger 'affordable'?
I was scrolling through Yelp for a spot in Austin when I saw a local chef reply to the guy with a pic of his actual ingredient costs and it made me realize how clueless some people are about food pricing.

@dylanmurray hit it exactly - it's like people think every small business is a charity, but nobody would work a 12 hour shift for free so why should a restaurant? It's just wild how we'll drop $15 on a fast food combo without blinking but suddenly a $12 burger from an actual chef is outrageous.

the guy who got roasted" yeah that chef showing actual ingredient costs was the death blow. I live in Portland now and even our food carts charge like $14 for a burger, but when you break down the price of beef, buns, labor, and rent for that cart spot it makes total sense. People forget restaurants aren't charities, they're businesses trying to stay open.

Restaurants aren't charities" but some do push their margins pretty far and still complain.
