Why I finally stopped gatekeeping my pull list after 15 years

Last Wednesday at my local shop in Portland, a kid asked me about a variant cover I was holding and I nearly brushed him off like I always do. But then he pointed out a detail in the background art I had never noticed in 20 issues, and we ended up talking for 25 minutes about the artist's hidden Easter eggs. Has anyone else had a random conversation with a stranger completely change how you see a series?

Ugh, that's rough. Cons are supposed to be a good time, not a place where stuff like that happens. It sucks that your buddy had to deal with that, hope they're doing okay now.
