Went to a con last weekend and the vibe felt totally different

Drove down to the Motor City Comic Con in Novi, MI and I swear the crowd was like 80% people under 20. Saw a kid with a $500 graded ASM #300 just flipping through it like it was a free comic day grab. Can we talk about how fans are more about speculating than actually reading now, or is that just me? Has anyone else noticed the shift at their local con?

That’s a bummer to hear, and honestly it kind of breaks my heart a little. I saw the same thing at a smaller show last fall, a teenager pulled out a near-mint copy of X-Men #1 from a bag with no board and just thumbed through it like it was a library book. The speculator mindset is real, but it feels like folks forgot you can’t put a price on the joy of actually sitting down and getting lost in a story. I’m right there with you, it makes you wonder if they even know who the characters are or just what the book is worth. Keep your head up, there are still a few of us who buy comics to read them.
