Warning: I just hit 1000 single issues in my collection and my wife is giving me the side eye

So I was doing a full count of my long boxes this weekend, trying to make some space in the garage. I knew I had a lot, but when the number hit exactly 1000, I just stared at it. That's a thousand separate comics, not counting trades or digital. The crazy part is, I don't even feel like a big collector. I just kept picking up my pulls every Wednesday at the shop in Tempe, plus the occasional back issue hunt. It snuck up on me. My wife walked in, saw the stacks everywhere, and just said 'Really, Dylan?' in that tone. It matters because it made me realize how much this hobby has been a steady part of my life for over a decade, even when other stuff got busy. Has anyone else hit a number that made you stop and think about the time and space this all takes?

Ever think about what happens to all that paper if you ever have to move?

I hit 1500 last year and had the same moment. The space thing is real, I had to rent a small storage unit just for my long boxes. It's not just the money spent, it's the physical weight of all that paper and ink. My partner calls it my paper museum, and she's not wrong. You look up one day and a hobby has become a part of your home's foundation.

Wait, but is it really that big of a deal? I mean, it's just comics, not like you're hoarding old tires or something. If you can afford the storage unit and it makes you happy, who cares if it takes up space?
