Vent: Told a comic shop owner I was a fan and got a full life story I didn't sign up for

I stopped by Heroes & Villains in Austin last Saturday just to grab a new Spider-Man issue. I mentioned I was a big fan of the 90s animated series and the owner grabbed my arm and gave me a 45 minute rant about how Marvel ruined the Clone Saga. I stood there holding my bag of chips the whole time while he pointed at old posters on the wall. He finally sold me a random issue of Web of Peter Parker number 121 for 8 bucks and said it was essential reading. I learned that some fans take their comic history way more seriously than I ever will. Has anyone else gotten trapped in a store where the owner just won't let you leave?

Hold up, that issue number sounds off. Web of Peter Parker didn't hit 121 until way later in the run, that's more like a numbering from the original Web of Spider-Man.

Wow, getting trapped by a comic shop owner is practically a rite of passage. I once mentioned I liked Batman and the guy literally pulled out a three-ring binder full of his own fan theories about the Joker's origin. I ended up learning more about some guy named Bill's headcanon than I ever wanted to know. At least you got a comic out of it, I just got a lecture and a dirty look when I tried to leave for "not appreciating the art form." Honestly, sometimes I think these owners just need someone to talk to, and we're the poor souls holding snacks who get roped in.
