The comic shop regular who turned into a reseller in 90 days flat

I watched this guy go from asking for recommendations on Wednesday pull lists to flipping 40 variant covers on eBay by Saturday morning. He admitted he was just reading price guides during the week instead of the actual books. Has anyone else seen their local hangout turn into a stock exchange?

The guy reading price guides instead of comics is a dead giveaway he's in it for the flip, not the love of the hobby. It's wild how fast that shift happens when people realize they can make a quick buck off a hot variant.

Man, I just told my friend the same thing last week. He started pulling triple covers of every Marvel #1 and I had to ask him when he actually read the last comic he bought. Told him if he wants to flip books there's easier ways to make money without wrecking the shop for everyone else.

Oh man, that exact thing happened to my buddy Mark at our local shop. He walked in one day to grab the new X-Men issue and this new guy was already camped out at the counter, phone out, checking eBay sold listings on his phone. By week two the guy was buying four copies of everything and my friend could never find a regular cover anymore. The owner finally had to ask him to chill out because he was literally blocking the register area with stacks of books he was just going to flip. It totally killed the vibe for a while.
