Rant: That one guy at Midtown Comics who wouldn't stop gatekeeping
Was at the Midtown Comics store on 40th Street last Saturday flipping through some back issues when this older guy in a Deadpool shirt walks up and tells me I'm holding the book wrong. He said I was gonna crease the spine and ruin the value lol. I've been collecting for 5 years and never had anyone call me out like that. Has anyone else run into a total stranger correcting how you handle your comics?

Friend of mine said the same thing to @miam75. Told him his bag was too tight.

First Wednesday of the month a few years back at Forbidden Planet, some guy in a full-on Bill Finger era Batman costume tried to tell me I was stacking my new releases wrong. I had Issues #1-4 of some Image series on the counter and he said I was putting too much weight on the bottom copy, that it was gonna leave a permanent spine roll. I just stared at him for a second, took the top one off, and put it next to the pile. He nodded like I'd just passed a test and walked away. Still no clue if he was right or just a weirdo with too much time on his hands.

He's probably saved a few people from wrecking their books over the years, most people just don't handle them right. If you're gonna drop serious money on collectibles, you might as well learn the basics of not damaging them.
