Kid at the shop made me rethink how I collect comics
I was at my local shop in Denver last weekend and this 14 year old kid saw me buying a variant cover, said 'why buy the fancy cover when the story inside is the same?' Been thinking about that for days. Has anyone else had a simple comment from a younger fan change how you see collecting?

Got a similar wake up call when this high school kid at the register pointed at my stack of 5 Batman variants and said "you read any of those or just frame 'em?" Shut me right up. I realized I had a wall of comics I never even cracked open, just sitting in bags. Sold off most of the variants last month and started actually reading the stories, feels way better.

Kids out here giving better life advice than my therapist. Might start paying mine in variant covers just to shut him up.

Wait, hold on... you sold off MOST of your variants? That's wild to me. I've got about 15 years worth of this stuff taking up an entire closet, all bagged and boarded like they're sacred relics. Never even opened most of them. Just seeing the spines line up every morning felt like a win... but now you're telling me you actually cracked open the stories and it felt better? That's crazy talk. I don't know if I could do it. I'd probably break a sweat just thinking about putting a price sticker on a single copy of my Secret Wars #8 variant.
