I used to think comic book grading was a total scam, but then I saw a graded copy of Amazing Fantasy #15 sell for $3.6 million.

Total scam" is a bit strong. It's just plastic and a number, but people pay for that certainty.

Remember when concert tickets were just a piece of paper? Now it's a whole process with digital codes and fees that cost more than the ticket itself. You're right, we are just paying for the idea that it won't get lost. My phone has a folder full of screenshots that are basically modern ticket stubs, but somehow less real. The plastic card or the app notification just feels like permission to get in, not a real thing you own.
