I finally hit 1,000 issues in my longbox last week

I was moving my collection to a new shelf and decided to actually count everything. Turns out I've got 1,023 single issues sitting in my closet, mostly from the 90s. That number caught me off guard since I never set out to collect that many, it just piled up over time. Has anyone else done a full count and gotten a number that surprised them?

Oh man, that hits close to home. I finally did a rough count last year when I was packing up for a move and I hit like 800 something issues and I just sat there staring at the boxes like... when did this happen? It's crazy how they just accumulate, you know? I swear half of them are from those 90s variant covers that I couldn't resist even though I barely read half of them. Now I'm scared to actually do a proper catalog because I know the real number is probably way higher than I think.

That line about "sat there staring at the boxes" hit me hard because I used to be the opposite (I honestly thought people were exaggerating about their collections getting out of hand). But then I had to move a few years back and I finally understood what everyone meant when they said it creeps up on you. I pulled out my longboxes and just sat there like... wait, when did I buy all these? It's wild how you don't notice the pile growing when you're just grabbing one or two issues a week. Now I totally get the "scared to do a proper catalog" thing because ignorance is bliss, you know?
