Hot take: Spending $45 on silver age Batman issues at a con was either genius or idiotic

I dropped $45 on a stack of mid-grade silver age Batman issues at a local con last month and they either saved my collection's value or completely burned me since half of them had hidden spine ticks I missed in the dim lighting - has anyone else gambled on a bulk deal like that and regretted or celebrated it?

Bought a "mystery box" of 90s comics once. Total gamble.

$60 is what I paid for a mystery box off eBay a few years ago and I told myself it was probably a scam. I used to think those boxes were just a way for sellers to dump worthless inventory on people. But then I got one with a pretty clean copy of New Mutants #98 in it, @briancarter, which has Deadpool's first full appearance. That alone made the whole thing worth it for me and actually changed my mind about the whole concept. Now I still think most mystery boxes are garbage but I can't completely hate them after that one lucky pull.

Used to roll my eyes so hard at mystery boxes, thought they were the biggest scam going. Then my buddy got one from some random seller and pulled a first print of Spawn #1 in decent shape, which is a pretty solid book. That find actually made me rethink my whole stance, even though I still think most of them are just overpriced trash. Now I'm kinda tempted to try one myself, even knowing the odds are stacked against me lol.
