Hot take: My buddy who said Silver Age comics are overrated was totally wrong

My friend Mark from the shop on 42nd Street kept telling me that Silver Age stuff isn't worth the hype, that the stories are too wordy and the art is dated. I finally read a run of Fantastic Four from issue 45 to 50 that he loaned me as a joke. Turned out I loved every single page and now I'm hunting for back issues at every con I hit. Has anyone else had a friend steer you away from something only to find out they were way off base?

Must be nice having friends who try to save you from good comics instead of hoarding them all for themselves. Your buddy sounds like he's still mad about the price of issue 48.

@cooper.phoenix you're probably not wrong about the price thing. Mark is still salty he didn't grab more key issues back when they were dollar bin fodder. Here's something nobody's brought up yet - maybe your buddy was testing you. Like maybe he wanted to see if you'd actually give something a fair shot before writing it off. I've had guys at the shop do that with old Kirby stuff, acting like it's trash then watching you flip through it. They just want to know if you're a real collector or someone who only cares about the new hotness. Either way, good on you for not listening to him.
