Had a collector swear my 15 year old long boxes were fine - he was dead wrong
Guy at a con in Des Moines told me my cardboard boxes would hold up forever. Well after a basement flood last spring I lost 30 issues because the bottoms disintegrated. Now I'm slowly switching to those plastic bcw short boxes. Anyone else learned that lesson the hard way?

and the worst part is those cardboard boxes feel sturdy until they absolutely aren't. i had a stack of long boxes sitting on a concrete floor for maybe two years, looked fine from the outside, but the bottom corners were basically dust. one rainy season and the moisture just crept up through the cardboard and turned the whole thing into mush. 30 issues is rough man, i lost about 15 that way before i wised up. the plastic bcw short boxes are a solid move, but honestly i'd also recommend getting those little risers or shelves to keep anything off the floor entirely. learned that lesson from a friend who had a pipe burst, now all my boxes are on metal shelving at least 4 inches off the ground.

That "felt sturdy until they absolutely aren't" line hits hard, @aaronclark said it perfectly. Sorry about the 30 issues man, that's a gut punch.
