Debate: When do you step in vs let a fan ruin their own collection?

Last comic con in San Diego, I saw a guy in line arguing with this kid about a key issue. The kid had a copy of Amazing Spider-Man 300 in rough shape but was about to trade it for some common modern variant. I wanted to say something because I knew the kid was getting ripped off, but it's not my business right? I ended up just watching it happen and the kid walked away happy with his trade. 6 months later I still think about that. Should I have stepped in or was it right to mind my own business? What do you guys do when you see a bad trade happening in real time?

I've been in that EXACT spot and now I always ask if I can give a quick heads up before the trade goes through. Usually I just say "hey man, you might want to check the going rate on that first" and let them decide. If they still want to trade after hearing the info, that's on them, but at least the kid had a chance to know what he had.

That line "let them decide after hearing the info" is great in theory, but what about when the kid gets mad at you for making them feel dumb after? lol I've seen it happen where the person giving the heads up ends up being the bad guy anyway.

Yeah that's exactly what @bettyfox said, sometimes the kid just gets pissed at you for trying to help.
