Debate: That guy at the shop said read Marvel first or DC first matters
Old guy at my local shop told me I had to start with Marvel before DC. Said it builds a better base. I did Marvel for 6 months. New Mutants, X-Men, the whole thing. Then I switched to DC and felt lost. Different tone, different history. He was wrong. Should I have started with DC first or just jumped into whatever looked cool? Anyone else get told one was better than the other?

Yeah that shop guy steered you wrong, I used to think there was a right order too but now I'm with you, just grab whatever looks cool.

Man that shop guy gave you bad advice. I've been reading both for years and the whole idea of needing to build a base with one first is nonsense. The Marvel universe and DC universe are completely separate beasts with their own rules and histories jumping between them is gonna feel weird no matter what order you do it in. Honestly just grab whatever looks cool on the rack that month whether it's Batman or the X-Men and run with it.
