Debate: Reading floppies vs. waiting for the trade paperback

I used to buy single issues every Wednesday. Spend $4-$5 each. Loved the monthly drip feed of stories. But after 3 years of doing that, I got tired of incomplete arcs and fragile comics. Now I wait 6 months for the trade. Costs less. Reads smoother. Do you stick with the weekly fix or do you hunt for collected editions? What made you choose one over the other?

My buddy spent $8 on a foil variant that got rained on before he even read it.

Yeah I used to think foil cards were worth it but that changed my mind.
