That little coffee shop in Portland ruined me for everything else

I stopped into this place called Good Brews on SE Division last Saturday, just wanted a quick cup before my shift. They had this single origin Ethiopian batch brew that tasted like blueberry and chocolate, no sugar or cream needed. The barista told me they roast their own beans in small batches, like 10 pounds at a time, and change the menu every two weeks. I've been chasing that flavor at home for 3 days now and can't get close. Anyone else have that one coffee shop that set the bar way too high for your daily routine?

Those Ethiopian beans really do spoil a person for anything else.

Drove twenty minutes out of my way this morning just to grab that Good Brews Ethiopian before my open house. Tried to recreate it with my home setup and ended up with something that tasted like muddy socks.

What kind of setup are you working with at home? I've got a simple pour-over (just a plastic V60 and a gooseneck kettle from a garage sale) and it took me three tries to get those Good Brews beans to taste even close to what they pour in the shop. Was it a grind size issue or did you try playing with the water temperature? Sometimes a small tweak makes all the difference between muddy socks and something drinkable.
