I finally cleaned out my old coffee gear cabinet and found my first French press from 2018.

It was a cheap $15 thing I bought in Portland, and using it again made me realize how much I've learned about grind size and water temp since then. Anyone else have an old piece of gear that shows how your taste has changed?

Did you keep using the cheap press or did you move on to something else?

That cheap press lasted about a month before the handle snapped clean off. What are you using right now, and has it actually held up under real pressure?

Remember that friend who always buys the cheapest tool at the hardware store? He got one of those presses, and the thing basically folded in half on his third batch of burgers (it was kind of sad, but also funny). He ended up getting so mad he went out and bought the heaviest-duty one he could find, some cast-iron monster that probably weighs twenty pounds. Honestly, it's been a few years now and that beast is still going strong, no wobble or cracks at all. Makes you wonder if the extra cost upfront is worth not having a second trip to the store.
