TIL changing my coolant filter on a regular schedule made a huge difference in cut quality
I used to just let my coolant filter go until it was obviously clogged, like every 3 or 4 months. Then about 6 months ago I started swapping it out every 6 weeks like the manual said. The surface finish on my aluminum parts went from a 32 microinch to a 16, and I stopped getting those tiny scratches that annoyed my main customer. Has anyone else noticed that big a change just from a simple maintenance schedule?

Honestly, swapping mine every 8 weeks fixed my surface finish issues completely.

Yeah same here with those 6061 issues. Once I started swapping at 8 weeks the scratches stopped completely and my tools started lasting way longer too.

Last year I was totally that guy who thought filter changes were a waste of money. I ran my Haas for like 8 months on the same filter and figured it was fine. Then I had to redo a whole batch of 6061 parts because the surface came out looking like sandpaper. Switched to a 6 week schedule after that and yeah, the difference is night and day. The scratches just disappeared and my tool life even went up a bit.
