Spent 6 hours chasing a tool offset that was off by .004
Finally found out the previous shift left a 2 inch gauge block sitting on the table, has anyone else burned a whole day on something that dumb?

Man, that's brutal. I've had the same thing happen with a forgotten soft jaw in the chuck, threw off everything for a whole shift. Best advice I got early on was to make a quick checklist before you start, including a visual sweep of the table and spindle area. Also, get in the habit of touching off against a known part before you trust any tool offset from the previous guy. It hurts now but you'll never overlook it again.
