Rant: My old foreman told me to always run a finish pass on aluminum at 8000 RPM and I just wrecked a part

Honestly, he drilled that into my head for years at the shop in Dayton. Ngl, I never questioned it until I switched to a new machine with a different spindle. Tried his rule on a 6061 piece last week and it chattered so bad it ruined the surface finish. Had to scrap a $150 block after the final op. Turns out the new machine's sweet spot is way lower, like 5200 RPM for that tool. Has anyone else had a 'golden rule' from a past job blow up on a new setup?

Ugh, that's the worst! It's like when you move to a new kitchen and your old recipe for cookies burns every time.

My oven runs about 25 degrees hot, so I've accepted my fate as a baker of slightly crispy cookies.

Crispy edges are the best part anyway.
