My shop switched from G54 offsets to G55 on a 40 part run and scrap dropped to zero
Ran the same aluminum bracket on two Haas VF2s side by side last Tuesday, one with G54 and one with G55, and the G55 machine held .0005 on every part while the other one kept drifting, so now every setup in our shop gets its own work offset and I want to know if anyone else has seen this or if our G54 machine just needs its ballscrews looked at.
So the G54 machine forgot how to read the same program the G55 machine ran fine? Sounds less like a work offset problem and more like that VF2 is just mad at you. Haas ballscrews don't care if you call it G54 or G55, the offset is just numbers you typed in, so unless your G54 values were off by a few thou the whole time this is a coincidence wearing a lab coat. Bet the G55 machine just happens to be the one that got leveled right or has the tighter thrust bearings. I'd still dial indicator the G54 axis before I blame the offset number. Swapping offsets doesn't fix a machine that's drifting.
