Most guys in the shop laugh off stress, but I've seen it cause real harm.
They think toughing it out makes you a better operator. I've watched coworkers make costly errors when they're too stressed to focus properly. Taking five minutes to clear your head can prevent a scrapped part.

Back in my first five years as a machinist, I was all about that pressure making diamonds mindset. What changed it was watching our lead guy, who never made mistakes, rush a titanium aerospace part because the deadline had him fried. He didn't just scrap it, he ruined like eight grand in material. That's when I saw stress isn't a tool, it's a fuse.

Tell that to the guy whose "focused stress" just gave him shaky hands and a weld that looks like bird poop. There's a thin line between using pressure and letting it cook your brain. Most shops just cross that line and call it a Tuesday.

Funny, the shop guys I know actually work better under some pressure. That focused stress keeps your hands steady for tight tolerance work or a perfect weld bead. It's more about how you handle it, not avoiding it completely. New guys fold, but the good ones use that edge to lock in.
