Had to pick between a 1/4 inch ball end mill or a 3/8 for a tricky contour on a steel bracket.
Went with the 3/8 for more rigidity and it cut the chatter completely, finished the run of 50 parts with no scrap. Anyone have a better tool choice for tight internal radii on 4140?

Honestly that tracks with so much stuff outside the shop too lol. People get caught up in the perfect, clever solution when the obvious, stronger choice is right there. Like trying to fix a wobbly table with some fancy bracket when a thicker leg would just solve it. Over-engineering is a real trap, in machining and in life. Glad the bigger end mill worked out.

Not everything needs a deep life lesson though.

Bigger tool saved the day, huh? Classic case of overthinking it in the shop. Should have just grabbed the 3/8 from the start and saved yourself the headache. Sometimes the simple fix is just using the beefier cutter, even if it feels wrong for the radius. Bet you won't second guess it next time a tight corner gives you grief.
