Watching a celeb blow up their brand over a 2012 tweet feels like old news now
I used to care about every apology video and statement. Five years ago I'd watch the whole thing, read the thread, form an opinion. Now I just scroll past unless there's actual money involved or a lawsuit. The last one that got me was that food blogger who faked her whole giveaway, that took a week to unravel. Has anyone else just stopped paying attention to these cancel cycles unless someone gets hurt or loses real cash?
Caring about these things even when no money is involved is what keeps the whole system honest. If we only pay attention when someone gets sued, then the loudest voices win and the smaller stuff gets buried forever. The whole thing falls apart if everyone just scrolls past, so maybe the answer is to care smarter instead of not at all.
