TIL that Shane Dawson actually apologized like a normal person once
I always thought Shane Dawson's apology videos were just damage control, but last week I watched his 2020 one about the old racist sketches. He didn't make excuses or blame anyone else, just admitted he was a dumb 20 year old who thought shock humor was funny. What got me was he listed specific examples like the blackface and the jokes about kids, and he said he'd donate ad revenue. I still don't follow him or anything, but I changed my mind about him being totally fake. Has anyone else rewatched an old cancellation and felt different?

I saw an interview clip from like 2022 where he talked about that apology and said his manager told him not to do it that way. He did it anyway because he felt like he owed people an honest explanation. That stuck with me because most influencers hire crisis PR teams who write generic statements full of lawyer speak. He named the blackface thing and the pedophile jokes specifically, which most people would try to sweep under the rug. I still think he's an odd dude but that was probably the most direct apology I've seen from a YouTuber.
