TIL my DIY youtube channel was annoying people with bad audio

I had a couple comments 3 months ago saying my voice sounded like I was recording from inside a tin can. One guy even made a joke about me using a 2005 webcam mic. I ignored it at first but then I watched one of my own videos and yeah, it was pretty rough. So I went and picked up a $40 lavalier mic off Amazon and tested it on the next video. The difference was night and day and now people actually stay to watch instead of clicking off in 10 seconds. Anybody else get hit with feedback they didn't ask for that ended up helping?

Oh man, I totally feel you on that. Sometimes the harsh feedback stings but it's exactly what you need to hear to make a real improvement.

That thing you mentioned about the tin can recording really hit home. I actually read somewhere that sound quality is one of the first things people notice in a video, even more than the lighting sometimes. It makes sense because bad audio just makes it harder to focus on what someone's saying, you know (like your brain gets tired trying to decipher the words). Good on you for actually listening to the comments and making the change, most people just get defensive and delete the feedback instead of using it.

Kind of refreshing to see someone own their mistakes instead of making excuses. Don't see that much anymore.
