The roast video that flipped my view on cancel culture

I used to think every cancelled celeb deserved the full pile-on, especially after that 2022 brand apology that was basically copy-paste. But last month I watched an old 2016 clip of some comedian getting roasted, and the host said 'you can't laugh at someone for years and then act shocked when they mess up.' That line hit me because I realized I had been laughing at the same people I was later screaming to cancel. It made me look back at my own comment history and I saw myself piling on a makeup influencer for a dumb tweet that I probably could have written myself. Do you guys ever catch yourselves joining a bandwagon just because everyone else is, or am I the only one who had that wake-up call?

Is the pile-on actually about the person or just about feeling included?
