I finally realized I was the toxic fan who got celebs cancelled for years

After I saw that clip of a 19 year old influencer crying over losing her brand deal because of a tweet she wrote at 14, it hit me that I was always the first to screenshot old posts and send them to drama accounts without even thinking about context or growth, so how do you decide when a past mistake deserves a second chance versus when it should end someone's whole career?

The whole cancel culture thing feels like a bigger version of how we treat people in everyday life too. Like when someone makes a dumb comment at dinner and we just shut them out forever instead of letting them learn and apologize.

You really nailed it with that dinner table comparison @nguyen.tara. I think about this a lot with my own family actually. My sister said something super dumb about my job once, like nurses are just doctor helpers kind of thing, and I was ready to write her off completely. But I made myself sit down with her the next day and explain why it hurt, and she actually listened and apologized. We're cool now and she even brings me coffee on her way to work sometimes. People can change if you give them a real chance to understand what they did wrong. It takes way less energy than staying mad forever too, trust me.
