Had to choose between that fake influencer apology or the real one... picked wrong
So there was that whole drama with the skincare brand that messed up their shade range. Two influencers apologized. One did a 30 second crying video, the other wrote a 3 page note. I backed the crying video girl cause it felt more "real." Turns out she was paid to do it and the 3 page girl actually quit the brand. Felt like an idiot for 2 days. Anyone else fall for the dramatic apology instead of the boring written one?

I backed the crying video too, actually. My logic was basically "oh look, she's sad about it, must be genuine" (which is hilarious in hindsight, since I cry every time I watch a sad dog commercial and it means nothing). Then a coworker showed me the written apology and I felt like I'd bet on a horse that tripped at the starting line. Now I just assume any influencer who cries on camera is doing it for the views and maybe a check. The 3 page girl probably spent more time thinking about it than the crying girl spent on her whole apology.

Crying on camera is like the fast food version of an apology.

Yeah same here, I backed the crying one first. What worked for me was waiting like 24 hours before taking sides on any drama. The real apologies hold up after a day, the fake ones usually fall apart.
