Bought into that 'cancel culture is just consequences' hype until I saw a 16 year old get doxxed for an old joke

Watched a whole Discord server coordinate to get a kid expelled last week and now I'm not so sure who's really the bully here has anyone else had that moment where you realize the mob is worse than whatever the person did?

Oh man, this hits hard. I saw this exact thing go down in a local gaming community last year. Some 15 year old made an edgy meme in a private chat, someone leaked it, and within 48 hours there was a full on campaign to get him kicked out of school. They found his actual name, his mom's Facebook, everything. The joke was stupid and kinda gross but it wasn't like he was threatening anyone. The people doing the doxxing were in their 30s and 40s acting like they were saving the world by destroying a kid's life. Honestly made me sick watching grown adults pat each other on the back for it.

Wait, so we're supposed to believe a bunch of 40 year olds digging up a kid's mom's Facebook page is "heroic behavior" now? That's wild. I guess the bar for being a hero has really dropped since I was a kid. Back in my day, if a grown adult went after a teenager over a dumb joke, we called that a red flag, not a medal of honor. Honestly, the internet's just a massive game of "who can get offended the fastest" at this point. And the winners get to ruin someone's life for a few likes.

Honestly, what finally worked for me was just staying quiet and letting it blow over. In a group I used to be in, someone tried to pull that move on a kid who made a dumb joke about a game mechanic being broken. The adults got all high and mighty, but the rest of us just ignored them. Without people piling on or engaging, the whole thing fizzled out in like a day. Now they just look like the weirdos who got worked up over nothing.
