Warning: I chose a poly brush over steel for a tough creosote job and it worked better.

Everyone at the supply house said to always use a steel brush on a heavy buildup, but I grabbed a poly one for a nasty chimney in an old farmhouse. It flexed around the clay liner edges and didn't scratch anything, plus it cleaned just as well. Has anyone else tried this on a bad creosote job?

My uncle's chimney business in Toledo always used steel brushes on stage three creosote. He said poly could leave behind a glaze that causes problems later. I saw @sagemurphy switched, but I worry about that hidden risk on a really bad job. Doesn't the softer brush just push the problem down the road?

Used to swear by steel, but you changed my mind.

Ever think about the sound it makes, @sagemurphy?
