TIL the difference between a class A and class B flue pipe saved me from a bad install in Nashville last Tuesday

I was about to use a standard single-wall connector on a wood stove and the homeowner happened to mention their HOA rules, so I double-checked and realized the whole run needed double-wall class A for clearance, which cost me an extra hour but probably kept their house from burning down - has anyone else run into surprise code catches like that?

Respectfully, I don't think "surprise code catches" is really the right way to look at this. You said the homeowner mentioned HOA rules which made you double check, so that's just doing your job right by actually listening to the client and verifying clearances. Codes are there for a reason, and catching that before you fired it up isn't bad luck, it's just good practice that any decent installer should be doing anyway.
